Boardroom Apprentice - Emma Cassidy
We are delighted to have Emma Cassidy as our first ever Boardroom Apprentice! Emma came to us through the Northern Ireland Boardroom Apprentice programme. This is a twelve month unique board learning, development and placement programme which enables those who would like to serve on a public or third sector board to learn and gain experience in a safe way before they take that step. It seeks to enable a wider diversity of individuals to play their part in our boardrooms. The overarching aim of Boardroom Apprentice is ‘to move the board member role from aspiration to reality’.
Emma joined the board as a Boardroom Apprentice in September 2022. Emma has over ten years of experience working in the busy communications offices of international human rights organisations. Since 2018, she has been working with The Public Interest Litigation Support (PILS) Project, a human rights organisation dedicated to helping local NGOs and solicitors to use the law for social change. As Senior Engagement Lead, Emma is responsible for leading the Project’s communications work to raise awareness of public interest litigation and its impact. Before she joined PILS in November 2018, Emma was based in Brussels, Budapest and Dublin. She studied Economics, Politics and Law at Dublin City University and was awarded an LLM in Human Rights and Criminal Justice from Queen’s University Belfast. Emma was a founding member of the Repeal BXL campaign group and is a regular volunteer with The Homeless Period Belfast. As part of the Boardroom Apprentice Class of 2022, Emma is undertaking a 12-month placement with the board of the Halifax Foundation for Northern Ireland.
