Angel Eyes NI

Angel Eyes NI is a charity set up in 2007 by parents of visually impaired children, who wanted to share their experiences and improve the support available to other parents in the same situation. The aim of the charity is to ensure that every blind and partially sighted child in Northern Ireland will have equal opportunities to realise their dreams and aspirations.

The Halifax Foundation has supported Angel Eyes NI since 2014, through a series of Community Grants in which funding went towards the charity’s ‘The BEE Project,’ which empowered their young people to take their first step towards independence, reduced negative attitudinal barriers and part funded their Saturday drop-in club. The Foundation have also funded their Parent to Parent Support Project which encouraged parents to share their knowledge and experiences, as well as raise awareness and increase information available.

In 2018, Angel Eyes was one of two winners of the ‘Pitching 4 Pounds’ programme, which saw the charity successfully pitch to a panel of the Foundation’s Trustees, for a grant of £15,000. This has enabled them to develop an innovative new virtual reality app ‘Sight Loss Virtual Reality Application’ for mobile devices, which will help parents and professionals better understand the challenges partial sight brings.
